Ed has been ecologist at Highstead since 2006. He holds masters degrees from Harvard and the University of Vermont in forest ecology and field natural history and is a PhD candidate at the University of Massachusetts. His research focuses on the role of large herbivores in forested environments and on the historical ecology of southern New England and its relationship to modern forests. Ed also works closely with land trusts, town conservation commissions, private conservation organizations, and other groups to develop long-term forest monitoring studies on their properties as part of the Wildlands and Woodlands Stewardship Science Project.
