A Photo Exhibition: Floodplain Forests
9:00 am to 1:00 pm Join us in a reception for the opening of Floodplain Forests, a photographic exhibit by Claire Dacey on display in the Barn at Highstead. In this show, Claire aims to capture some of the dynamism, beauty, and biological richness of floodplain habitats. She is an artist and ecologist from western Massachusetts and will be on hand to discuss her work. The exhibit will run until August 22 and may be viewed by appointment.
Open House and Trails
9:00 am to 1:00 pm Visitors are invited to explore the new addition to our Barn headquarters. Walking trails will also be open for self-guided tours of the laurel collection in bloom.
Slide Show and Field Walk - Forests, Water Resources, Climate Change...and People
1:00 pm. Dr. Paul K. Barten is a forester and hydrologist at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who has worked on three National Academy of Science studies of water issues associated with climate and land use change. Following his talk we will visit a local watershed for additional discussion of the role of forests in the production of abundant, clean water. Seating is limited.
